Why we need this Pathway
Leading, managing and delivering change should be a core competency within our organisation. However, we know from recent external inspections and other sources that we need to improve the way we engage our teams and manage change.

What is this Pathway and who is it for?
It has been developed primarily as a library of resources to support all levels of staff involved in delivering (non-capital) change through projects and continuous improvement activity. The guidance and techniques are adaptable and scalable to most situations, and there are also resources to support staff affected by change.

All the resources have been drawn together from a range of sources, both internal and external, by colleagues who have relevant experience and expertise, and wish to share it for the benefit of the wider organisation.

What this Pathway isn't
This isn’t a set of corporate standards or methodology (this currently doesn’t exist). You will therefore see a variety of different formats but that does not diminish the value of the content.

How to use this Pathway and what to expect
This depends on your level of experience, what it is you want to achieve, and how much time you have. There’s no prescribed route through the topics, you can dip in to find something specific or you can work through sections that interest you in bite sized chunks to build up your knowledge at your own pace.

However, just a word of caution - there is a wealth of information here because doing change well involves integrating a variety of techniques, and everything here has a proven value. To put this into context, if you were to explore all the topics fully, the learning you’d get from this pathway would be similar to going on a 5day training course! So, it may seem overwhelming at first, especially if you are fairly new to the subject, but don’t let that put you off. Once you get started and familiar with how to navigate the topics, things will become much easier!

What you will find in this Pathway
In this pathway you will find a range of practical resources, grouped into themes. These are shown in boxes below with a brief summary of the content to assist you with navigating directly to the area most useful to you.

Other frameworks that take precedence over this Pathway
Some services have a Project Management Office (PMO) within them. Where this is the case you should check with that PMO and use any service specific approaches and templates that they require. For example Capital Projects should follow the guidance provided by the Capital Programme Management Office.

This Pathway may be enhanced over time in response to feedback and evolving best practice. If you would like to give feedback on your experience of using this pathway, please email learninganddevelopment@westsussex.gov.uk
