West Sussex County Council is ambitious to promote and maintain high quality practice standards for children. Child Protection Advisers (CPA) and Independent Reviewing Officers (IRO) are located in the Quality Assurance & Practice improvement service of the Family Operations Directorate, and have no operational role in the management of individual children’s case work. As such, they are well placed to offer an overview about individual case management as well as service delivery issues on behalf of the local authority.

They are also ideally placed in the overall architecture of the multi-agency safeguarding system in West Sussex to report on the health of multi-agency safeguarding arrangements.
