Members are welcome to explore this Learning and Development website and take advantage of the resources available including the online resources which support mandatory training and also your role. Members should note that site is predominantly aimed at paid staff and the majority of face to face courses would not be suitable for members to attend.

Some events for the Member Induction 2021 which will be led by the Learning and Development Team are bookable through this site – details are below.

Online learning courses lined to Members Mandatory Training
All members must undertake certain mandatory training for details of all mandatory member training please refer to in Democratic Services (Tel: 03302 228679)
The following online learning modules complement some of the mandatory courses that are trainer led. If you can’t attend one of the relevant face to face mandatory events, you must undertake the online training module instead.
  • Safeguarding Adults - Will provide you with information about the Council’s role in safeguarding adults.
  • Safeguarding Children -  Will provide you with information about the Council’s role in safeguarding adults.
  • Public Sector Equality Duty - Explains the County Council’s role regarding the Public Sector Equality Duty.
  • Cyber Security and GDPR Matters - Will help you to understand the importance of cyber security and understand the requirements of GDPR. This module also includes key information that members need to know about data protection.

The Council is a member of the Local Government Association (LGA). The LGA website offers a wealth of resources and information for councillors, including a number of helpful councillor guides and workbooks.

The Local Government Association (LGA) E-Learning platform offers a number of courses specifically designed to support councillors. Access is free, but individual members will need to register.
