Practitioners report that training alongside other organisations is of the key factors in making multi-agency working a success. It means that opportunities are built in for staff from different backgrounds to get to know each other, co-operate, discuss, and make joint decisions.

This is not a standardising process, but one that helps each person appreciate the different contributions they can make to meet their common goals.

The Local Safeguarding Children Partnership (LSCP) recognises the importance of:

  • Giving practitioners an opportunity to learn together.
  • Developing awareness of the broader remit of the LSCP in safeguarding the children of West Sussex.
  • Ensuring knowledge is up to date and practice is effective around the protection of children of West Sussex

Inter-agency training within West Sussex helps us develop and foster a shared understanding of the local arrangements for safeguarding children and promoting their welfare. These include:

  • Tasks
  • Processes
  • Principles
  • Roles
  • Responsibilities.

It also helps us all to:

  • Co-ordinate our services - strategically and individually
  • Improve our communication - giving us a common understanding of key terms, definitions and thresholds for action
  • Work effectively together - while respecting and understanding the role and contribution of each different agency
  • Make sound decisions - based upon the information we share, thorough assessment, critical analysis and professional judgement.
