Administering Medication

Event Description This online learning module is for staff who are responsible for Administering Medication to people living in their own homes, Residential homes and Day centres. It forms Part One, of a three-part blended learning programme.

  • The training follows the West Sussex County Council Medication Policy.
    Training Objectives The aim of this module, (and subsequent workbook and webinar) is to support you in gaining an awareness of/refresh your understanding of the theory of how to administer medication safely.

    You will need to undertake practical training in your workplace in order to become competent to administer medication without supervision. 
    Learning Outcomes If you apply what you have learned in this online learning module, (workbook and webinar) you will be able to:

  • Identify current legislation, guidelines policies and protocols relevant to the administration of medication.
  • Know about common types of medicines and their use.
  • Describe roles and responsibilities in the use of medicines in social care settings.
  • Explain how to receive supplies of medicines in line with agreed ways of working.
  • Describe how to store medicines safely.
  • Describe how to dispose of unused or unwanted medicines safely.
  • Explain the techniques for the safe administration of medicines.

    Course Pre-Requisites To attend the online webinar, you must complete the pre-session work. This will take approximately 5 hours to complete. It is recommended you do this in manageable chunks over the course of 1 week.
