Gypsy and Traveller - Part 4: Positive Strategy - Participation

Event Description This 20-minute online learning module is for anyone who works with adults and/or children from Gypsy and Traveller communities and focusses on what action you can take to increase Gypsy and Traveller participation in the areas of education, employment and finance.

This is the fourth of four modules that focuses on the key themes and questions arising amongst service providers about Gypsies and Traveller, and seeks to support you in developing a new or refreshed understanding of the common issues that they face today so that you will be able to help these often overlooked communities access the services that they are entitles to and engage with them in a more meaningful way.
Training Objectives The aim of this module is to support you to gain an awareness of the complex reasons why Gypsy’s and Traveller face various cultural, economic and systematic barriers in the areas of education, employment and finance and what you can do to support an increase in their participation with services that can support them.
Learning Outcomes If you apply what you have learnt in this module, you will be able to;

  • Identify barriers to educational attendance and attainment within the Gypsy and Traveller communities.
  • Recognise barriers in access to recruitment, self-employment, finance, insurance, disability and welfare benefits for people in the Gypsy and Traveller communities.
  • Use this awareness to pro-actively encourage increased participation by people in these communities with accessing your services.
