Gypsy and Traveller - Part 2: Challenges Faced by the Community

Event Description This 20-minute online learning module is for anyone who works with adults and/or children from Gypsy and Traveller communities and focusses on the continuing discrimination that many people in this community experience that creates barriers to accessing services.

This is the second of four modules that focuses on the key themes and questions arising amongst service providers about Gypsies and Traveller, and seeks to support you in developing a new or refreshed understanding of the common issues that they face today so that you will be able to help these often overlooked communities access the services that they are entitles to and engage with them in a more meaningful way.
Training Objectives The aim of this module is to support you to enhance your awareness of the stigma and discrimination, faced by people in the Gypsy and Traveller communities that makes it hard for them to access services and support, particularly with regard to education, employment and health. 
Learning Outcomes If you apply what you have learnt in this module, you will be able to;

  • Have an awareness of why there is stigma surrounding Gypsy’s and Travellers.
  • Identify what social exclusions they face.
  • Recognise what the impact of discrimination has upon individuals and the community.
  • Distinguish what the barriers are to people in the Gypsy and Traveller communities accessing services.
