Moving and Handling of Inanimate Objects

Event Description This module is mandatory for Shared Lives Carers providing a service in, or based from, their own home. It should be refreshed three yearly. It may also be relevant to domiciliary care workers, personal assistants and anyone caring for an individual in their own home. It will advise you on how to lift inanimate objects safely and look after your back. It will also help you advise those you support on the importance of safe moving and handling.
Training Objectives The aim of this course is to advise you on how to lift inanimate objects safely, use technology safely and how to look after your back.

PLEASE NOTE: This module relates to moving and handling inanimate objects only and will not advise you on moving and handling of people. 
Learning Outcomes At the end of this module you will be able to:

  • Describe how to look after your back.
  • Recognise bad and good practice in moving and handling inanimate objects.
  • Demonstrate how to safely sit, stand, and move.
