Positive Communication

Event Description This module is for anyone who wants to develop skills in positive communication with people with dementia. The module explores the positive impact of successful communication whilst providing the opportunity to develop new communication techniques that can help people with dementia to express themselves. The module also looks at how to respond when a person with dementia is expressing a different reality and how to avoid causing distress.

Training Objectives The aim of this module is to introduce you to the ways you can help people with dementia to communicate. 
Learning Outcomes If you apply what you have learnt in this module you will be able to:

  • Recognise factors that can impact on successful communication
  • Acquire some new communication techniques that you can use to help people with dementia to express themselves and understand what we are saying
  • Acquire a better understanding of how to respond when a person with dementia is expressing a different reality
  • Identify how to avoid causing distressing situations by recognising and responding to clues about the needs of the person with dementia
