The Emotional Impact Of Dementia

Event Description This module is aimed at anyone who wants to explore the emotional impact of living with dementia. The module provides the opportunity to explore feelings commonly experienced by people with dementia and their relatives and responses that can be helpful. In addition, the module looks at the importance of understanding the perspective of a person with dementia and why our communication must be sensitive to the feelings and needs of people with dementia.

Module 6 of the Open Dementia Suite from the Alzheimer's Society and the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE).
Training Objectives The aim of this module is to introduce you to the emotional dimension of dementia. 
Learning Outcomes If you apply what you have learnt in this module you will be able to:

  • Describe some of the feelings commonly experienced by people with dementia and their relatives
  • Recognise responses that can be helpful
  • Recognise that understanding the perspective of a person with dementia is vital to avoid causing emotional distress
  • Acquire a deeper understanding of why our communication must be sensitive to the feelings and needs of people with dementia
