Event Description This module is aimed at anyone looking to develop an understanding of the impact of diagnosis and who can help. The module explores the importance of early diagnosis, the emotional impact of receiving a diagnosis and the process involved in diagnosing dementia. In addition, the module looks at the need for robust support networks and reviews medical and non-medical treatments available.

Training Objectives The aim of this module is to introduce you to how dementia and is diagnosed and the support available. 
Learning Outcomes If you apply what you have learnt in this module you will be able to:

  • Identify reasons why an early diagnosis is important
  • Describe the emotional impact of receiving a diagnosis of dementia
  • Describe the process involved in diagnosing a dementia
  • List some key dangers of labelling people
  • Describe the multidisciplinary nature of a robust network of help and support for people with dementia and their families
  • Describe a range of medical and non-medical treatments in dementia and know how to access more information on them
