Fraud Awareness

Event Description This Fraud Awareness module is for staff at West Sussex County Council.

It will support you in gaining a basic awareness of the types of fraud that may be perpetrated against local councils and the impact that this can have.

It will also support you in learning about the measures that West Sussex County Council has put in place to prevent fraud occurring and will enable you to recognise your responsibilities with regards to identifying, preventing, detecting and reporting fraudulent activity in the course of your role.
Training Objectives The aim of this module is to provide you with a basic understanding of the types of fraud that may be perpetrated and the impact that this can have on local councils and the communities that we support.

It will also demonstrate to you the measures that West Sussex County Council has put in place to prevent fraud occurring and will enable you to recognise your responsibilities with regards to identifying, preventing, detecting and reporting fraudulent activity in the course of your role. 
Learning Outcomes If you apply what you have learnt in this module, you will be able to:

  • Recognise that 'Fraud' is the term used to describe a wide variety of dishonest behaviour and be able to identify the types of fraud that this includes.
  • Identify the scale of fraud and the impact that this has on councils in the UK.
  • Have an awareness of the measures that West Sussex County Council has put in place to prevent fraud from occurring.
  • Recognise your responsibilities in preventing and detecting fraud and reporting concerns.
  • Undertake the required actions for your role to prevent fraud from occurring.
  • Identify potential warning signs that fraud may be occurring and report them appropriately.
