Food Safety Awareness

Event Description This online learning module is aimed at any staff who are:

  • Responsible for preparing snacks and drinks.
  • Helping to provide breakfasts in smaller domestic kitchens within settings, including cereals, toast, and drinks.
  • Supporting customers in dining rooms.

  • It will introduce you to the importance of food hygiene, food hygiene and associated food hazards, as well as good hygiene practice and controls.

    If your role includes preparation of meals or supervision of staff, you will need to attend a Food Safety and Hygiene Level 2 course (available to WSCC staff only). This online module is a good introduction whilst you are waiting to attend.

    Training Objectives The aim of this module is to enable you to identify the risks of cross-contamination, and follow and maintain food safety practices when handling, preparing, and serving food and/or drinks. 
    Learning Outcomes If you apply what you have learnt in this online module, you will be able to:

  • Identify causes of food poisoning and how to avoid these occurring.
  • Maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and reporting of illness.
  • Store foods safely to avoid cross-contamination.
  • Carry out correct cleaning processes for your setting.
  • Dispose of waste correctly.
  • Follow correct reporting procedures.
