Infection Prevention and Control

Event Description This online learning module is relevant for new staff as part of an induction, as part of the Care Certificate – Standard 15, or for existing staff as a knowledge refresh.

It has been split into two parts:

  • Part 1 – The Chain of Infection: this part will look at categories of infections, signs, and symptoms, how they are spread and who is at risk.

  • Part 2 – Prevention and Control: This part will cover your responsibilities and steps you need to take in order to prevent and control infection.

  • Training Objectives The aim of this module is to provide you with the knowledge and behaviours required to carry out your role and responsibilities in preventing the spread and risk of infection in your work or home environment. 
    Learning Outcomes If you apply what you have learnt in this online module, you will be able to:

  • Recognise common categories of infection and where they are transmitted from.
  • Recognise the common signs and symptoms that could lead you to suspect a person has an infection.
  • Recognise who may be more susceptible or vulnerable to infections and explain why.
  • Describe what is meant by the term Healthcare Associated Infection (HCAI) and what it can mean for the people you support.
  • Identify and carry out the actions required to prevent cross transmission of infection.
