Dementia Awareness

Event Description This online learning module is for anyone working with or caring for people with Dementia and seeks to support you to improve the wellbeing and experience of people with dementia and of the care staff working with them.
Training Objectives The aim of this module is to introduce you to dementia, what it is and why early diagnosis is important. You will also explore what we can all do to reduce our risk of developing dementia.
You will focus on what it means to ‘live well’ with dementia and how you can help people with the condition live happier, more fulfilling lives. In the final section of this module you will discover ways to communicate effectively, the reasons why people with dementia may show signs of distress and what you can do to help and support in these situations. 
Learning Outcomes If you apply what you have learnt in this module, you will be able to:

  • Recognise what dementia is, why early diagnosis is important and the steps that people can take to reduce their risk of developing it.
  • Identify what it means to ‘live well’ with dementia and be able to take actions that will help the people you support, with dementia, to live happier more fulfilling lives.
  • Have an awareness of and be able to use effective communication techniques to better support and understand the needs of the people in your care.
  • Recognise reasons why people with dementia may show signs of distress and be able to help and support in these situations.
