Gypsy and Traveller - Part 3: Positive Strategy - Accessing Services

Event Description This 20-minute online learning module is for anyone who works with adults and/or children from Gypsy and Traveller communities and focusses on what you can do to support people in these communities to access service more effectively.

This is the third of four modules that focuses on the key themes and questions arising amongst service providers about Gypsies and Traveller, and seeks to support you in developing a new or refreshed understanding of the common issues that they face today so that you will be able to help these often overlooked communities access the services that they are entitles to and engage with them in a more meaningful way.
Training Objectives The aim of this module is to support you to gain an understanding of the cultural issues and barriers that can hinder people in the Gypsy and Traveller communities from accessing support services and find ways that you can assist in removing these barriers, with particular regard to accommodation, policing and healthcare.
Learning Outcomes If you apply what you have learnt in this module, you will be able to;

  • Have an awareness of the barriers to accessing services that are faced by Gypsy’s and Travellers.
  • Recognise and apply best practice when working with people from the Gypsy and Traveller communities in order to remove potential barriers they may face and support them more effectively within your service.
