Carbon Monoxide Awareness

Event Description This ‘Think CO’ online learning module is by the Gas Safe Charity and is for anyone who needs to have an awareness and understanding of the risks of Carbon Monoxide poisoning to the people that they support. It will help you learn more about the issue of Carbon Monoxide and Carbon Monoxide poisoning. As an organisation we have a legal duty of care to our staff, volunteers, clients and customers when it comes to Carbon Monoxide. Anytime you are undertaking a risk assessment, possibly in a new client’s home you need to take into account potential Carbon Monoxide risks, so that you can help safeguard and protect vulnerable people.
Training Objectives The aim of this module is to support you in developing an understanding of the signs, sources and symptoms of Carbon Monoxide poisoning and how to detect and prevent them. It will also help you, your team and your organisation plan how to respond to potential or actual Carbon Monoxide poisoning incident. 
Learning Outcomes If you apply what you have learnt in this module, you will be able to:

  • Have an awareness of general Carbon Monoxide facts.
  • Identify the impact of Carbon Monoxide at different concentration levels.
  • Have an awareness of the Gas Safe Register.
  • Have an awareness of the role of OFTEC (Oil Firing Technical Association) and HETAS (Heating Equipment and Testing Approval Scheme).
  • Be able to identify potential sources of Carbon Monoxide.
  • Be able to recognise the symptoms a person may present if they are suffering from CO poisoning.
  • Know methods of preventing Carbon Monoxide poisoning.
  • Learn about Carbon Monoxide Detectors and where they should be placed within the home.
