Dementia Awareness for Emergency Services

Event Description This online learning module is aimed at West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service staff, but is also relevant to other Emergency Services.

It will provide you with an overview and awareness of Dementia, including the stages and types, as well as looking at how to communicate and support a person with dementia.
Training Objectives The aim of this module is to enable you to understand dementia as a condition and to assist you with communicating and supporting a person with dementia, when attending incidents or working in the community. 
Learning Outcomes If you apply what you have learnt in this module, you will be able to:

  • State the signs of dementia.
  • Demonstrate how to communicate with someone who has dementia.
  • Demonstrate how to support a person with dementia in different situations.
  • Identify when to refer an individual to other services for support.
