Event Description

This two one day course is for Early Years settings, Childminders, Out of School Clubs and Schools with Early Years provision. If you do not fall into one of these groups, but work with young children, please email early.years.traing@westsussex.gov.uk

This is a certified Makaton Foundation Level 1 and 2 for those working in Early Years. It includes four workshop manuals and a certificate of completion.

Training Objectives

The aim of this course is to provide you with a detailed introduction to Makaton. It combines a practical approach with theory and technical information, as well as an experiential introduction to communication disability.

Learning Outcomes

If you apply what you have learnt in this course you will be able to;

Describe the use and purpose of Makaton.

Describe emotional and psychological effects associated with severe communication difficulties.

Use multi modal forms of communication including signs, symbols, speech and body language to convey information.

Organise information in order to convey it to others and extend interactions.

Use direction, placement and movement during non-verbal communication.

Recognise, draw and demonstrate the signs and symbols for Stages 1-4 and additional Core Vocabulary.

Course Pre-Requisites

This course has been developed for those working in Early Years. You must have an understanding of early communication skills to attend.
