Epilepsy Advanced: Administering Medication - Adults and Children

This is a course for those who work with Adults or Children (not Babies) who have Epilepsy and will require the administration of either Buccal Midazolam or Rectal Diazepam.

This is an opportunity to refresh previous knowledge and skills or gain the knowledge and skills on the types of epileptic seizures, care of an adult or child during a seizure and the different types of medication associated with epilepsy.

You will also have the opportunity to learn how to administer Buccal Midazolam and Rectal Diazepam.

The aim of this course is to provide you with a greater awareness of epilepsy and the process and procedure in providing the medication needed when an adult or child experiences an epileptic seizure.
If you apply what you have learnt on this course, you will be able to:

  • Relate and explore previous learning and practice
  • Identify when an adult or child is experiencing a seizure
  • Explain what is good practice to providing the care and medication (Care planning)
  • Identify appropriate policy and guidelines
  • Identify when and how to administer prescribed medication
  • Identify what actions are appropriate if difficulties arise when using the care plan
  • You must have completed the following pre-requisites in order to be eligible for this course:

  • Epilepsy Awareness, or
  • Attended Epilepsy Advanced in the last two years
  • and
  • Foundation in Medicines Administration within the last two years

  • If you have not completed these Pre-Requisites at the time of booking your place on this event will be cancelled.
