Mobile Virtual Dementia Tour

Workshop
This 2-hour Virtual Dementia Tour workshop is for anyone who works supporting people living with Dementia and is the only scientifically and medically proven method of giving a person with a healthy brain the experience of what dementia might be like by providing a simulated window into their world.

The two-hour session is set up as a 1-hour virtual experience facilitated by a trainer on the bus, followed by a 1-hour video recording explaining the experience. Both parts of the event need to be completed.

Attending this Workshop
This workshop takes place in a relatively small environment with steps to access. People of a nervous disposition of closed spaces or who are unable to mobilise safely should not attend this session. A medical disclaimer will be required from all delegates prior to the event taking place.

About the Virtual Dementia Tour
The Virtual Dementia Tour is the only scientifically and medically proven method of giving a person with a healthy brain the experience of what dementia might be like.

Invented over 18 years ago in America the Virtual Dementia Tour has been experienced by over 2 million people in 17 countries and has been in the UK for over 5 years.

Already the Virtual Dementia Tour has been adopted by 1700 care providers, 12 NHS trusts, Councils, Fire Service, Police, Prisons and many more and we are seeing the tour changing the lives of so many caring for people with dementia.
The aim of this workshop is to provide you with an immersive experience in order to support you in developing an appreciation of the sensory and environmental impact that a person with dementia may experience.

You will be supported to develop a person-centred care approach that will enable you to identify the environmental changes needed, improve your communication skills, and learn how to build simple and engaging activities that will improve the lives of people with dementia.
If you apply what you have learnt in this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Identify some of the physical and sensory changes that a person living with dementia may experience.
  • Recognise how the environment can help or hinder a person living with dementia.
  • Identify ways to make the environment conducive for someone living with dementia.
  • Identify ways to improve communication for people living with dementia.
  • Use person-centred care approaches when supporting people living with dementia.
  • Challenge stereotyping and labelling of people living with dementia.
  • Relate to how a person with dementia may feel in an unfamiliar environment and identify ways to support the person.
  • Change the way you practice your care and support activities so that you can improve the lives of people living with dementia and help them achieve positive outcomes.
  • Recognise the importance for people with dementia to have meaningful activities and be able to support in an inclusive environment.
  • Promote dignity and respect for people living with dementia.
