Family Safeguarding Model Briefing

This 2 hour briefing is for all staff working in Children Young People and Learning. The briefing will develop your understanding of the Family Safeguarding Model and Motivational Interviewing, it will also increase your awareness of how the Family Safeguarding Model is being implemented at West Sussex County Council.

All roles within Children Young People and Learning should attend this briefing with the exception of staff working in; Family Support and Protection, Adolescent Services, MASH and Assessment and Intervention, staff working in these areas will participate in service briefings.
The aim of this course is to increase understanding, and awareness of the Family Safeguarding Model, and the use of Motivational Interviewing.
If you apply what you have learnt you will be able to:

  • Recognise benefits of the Family Safeguarding Model
  • Explain how increased engagement with professionals can lead to more help and support
  • Describe a multi-disciplinary approach that addresses both parents’ and children’s needs
  • Recognise how more responsive support will reduce drift and delay
  • Describe how more “high-risk families” can be kept together safely
  • Recognise how the Family Safeguarding Model can support improved children’s health and educational outcomes
