Understanding Five to Thrive (Half day webinar)

This 2.5 hour webinar is for those working within Early Help (EH) and Early Years settings.

It seeks to support you in securing a sound understanding of brain development and the five “building blocks” of the highly regarded “Five to Thrive” approach.

This webinar hosted via Microsoft Teams. You must have access to a computer or tablet, the internet and a web camera to participate. Mobile phones are not suitable due to the small screen.

The aim of this webinar is to support you to identify ways to develop meaningful and empowering adult and child relationships which boost children’s confidence, self-esteem, resilience and self-regulation.
If you apply what you have learnt in this webinar you will be able to;

  • Create an ethos in which the Five to Thrive agenda can be implemented in the home and the setting through practice, modelling and conversations with parents/carers.
  • Develop meaningful adult and child relationships, in order to help children feel confident, happy and secure which have a positive impact on their resilience and ability and readiness to learn.
  • Provide well-informed and compassionate responses which support secure attachments and include the development of resilience, confidence and self-regulation strategies.
  • Support parents and colleagues to implement ‘Five to Thrive’ in the family home and the setting.
  • This course has mandatory pre-course work. These tasks are attached to the Gateway course place confirmation email, the instructions are below.

  • Read the paper booklets posted to you one month before the course.
  • Using the booklets, complete the pre-course task.
  • Print the pre-course task and ‘Observation at the Swimming Pool’ before the session, as you will be writing on them during the session. If you do not have access to a printer, please have them available on a second screen if possible.
  • The two Five to Thrive posters are background information for you to read and/or display.
  • Please bring a biro, notebook and highlighter pen to the training.
