Event Description

This Safer Recruitment webinar, delivered over 2 half day sessions via Skype, is for managers in Early Help or Children's Social and Residential Care who are responsible for recruiting staff who work with children and young people, or who are involved in providing services for them.

It seeks to assist you in raising your awareness and improving your practice throughout the interview and recruitment selection process of new staff in order that you maximise the opportunity for hiring suitable candidates within the wider context of safeguarding.

During the course you will complete a multiple choice assessment to gain their certification.

Please note you need to book onto and attend both half days to complete the course and assessment.

Prior to the webinar you will be emailed pre-course work to complete which forms the basis for discussion during the webinar.

Training Objectives

The aim of this course is to assist you in improving your awareness of the following topics;

Safer recruitment and the wider context of safeguarding

Prevalence of abuse and profile of abusers

How abusers operate within organisations

Features of a safer recruitment process

Planning a safer recruitment process

Making the right decisions: interview and selection

Setting acceptable standards of behaviour

Maintaining an on-going culture of vigilance.

Learning Outcomes

If you apply what you have learnt on this course you will be able to;

Identify the key features of staff recruitment that deter or prevent the appointment of unsuitable people.

Consider policies and practice that minimise opportunities for abuse or ensure its prompt reporting.

Help participants to review WSCC policies and practice in recruitment with a view to creating a safer culture.

Course Pre-Requisites

Having attended the Recruitment & Interviewing training within the last 3 years is a mandatory requirement for attending this event. If you are unable to meet this requirement the expectation is that you will book onto a Recruitment & Interviewing event as soon as possible afterwards.
