First Aid at Work Requalification (Cancelled)

Insufficient numbers
This certified 2 day course is for existing nominated workplace first aiders in all the Adult care Provider Services and West Sussex County Council employees in either Adult or Children services who work with adults. It does not cover child or paediatric first aid.

It updates the first aid skills of those who need to renew their First Aid at Work certificate (the three day First Aid at Work training). Certificates expire after three years.
The aim of this course is to update the knowledge and practical skills required to meet first aid requirements in the workplace in line with Health and Safety (first aid) legislation.
If you apply what you have learnt on this course you will be able to:

  • Identify the role of the first aider in the workplace
  • Managing an emergency resuscitation, incorporating the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Demonstrate first aid care of the casualty and summon help as required
  • Demonstrate with confidence the ability to deal with the following situations:
  • Bleeding
  • Choking
  • Seizures
  • Shock
  • Treatment of an unconscious casualty
  • Burns and scalds
  • Very Important – It is essential that you and your manager read the attachment information for delegates. Due to Covid-19 specific instructions for attending this class room based event are attached. Please make sure you have read these instructions before booking or attending this event.

    Important notes:
Please be aware, CPR on a manikin must be demonstrated on the floor at least once for the purpose of assessment.

There is a level of physical ability required to complete this course successfully. In order to carry out the practical elements you will need to be able to work on the floor at various times throughout the course, including placing a casualty in the Recovery Position, various First Aid scenarios and simulated CPR on a manikin - adjustments can be made to practice CPR, but the assessment must be carried out on the floor.

Please consider carefully whether you are able to undertake these activities before applying.
If you are unable to do so, please contact Learning and Development for further advice before booking a place on this course.

You must read the Qualsafe Awards Training Commitment document (attached) before participating in this event.

On the first day you must bring:
  • Photo I.D. for the trainer to check; e.g. Passport/Driving Licence/Work I.D. Card.
  • You must also bring your current valid First Aid at Work Certificate.

  • If you do not provide these you will not be permitted to attend this event.

Please Note: In order to attend this event, you must hold a current valid First Aid at Work certificate (Emergency First Aid at Work certificate not acceptable).

If your certificate has expired, you have a 28 day 'grace' period from the date of expiry in which to re-qualify. Outside of this period you would need to re-attend the full 3 day First Aid at Work event.
