Adverse Childhood Experiences and Early Trauma

Online Learning
This 1 hour online learning module is for anyone who works with or comes into contact with children and young people and seeks to provide you with an introduction to Adverse Early Experiences (ACEs) and Early Trauma and the impact that this can have upon a child’s development and their response to stress.

To start this interactive module please use the link above.
The aim of this module is to support you in developing an awareness of adverse experiences and the impact that they can have on the development of a child and their response to stress.
If you apply what you have learnt in this module, you will be able to:

  • Identify adverse experiences that can impact on a child’s development and their response to stress.
  • Have an awareness of the importance of healthy brain development in a child’s early years and the impacts of toxic stress.
  • Recognise that experiencing adversity in childhood can have a significant impact over a person’s life course resulting in potential ill health, poor well-being and, in some cases, premature death.
  • Recognise how building resilience can help mitigate the impact of ACEs.
  • Identify what it means to look at adverse childhood experiences through a “trauma informed lens”.
  • Identify examples of key protective factors that can help mitigate the impact of ACEs and different strategies that can help build resilience.
  • Please Note
This video based online module is hosted on a separate website so the Learning and Development Gateway cannot record your completion of the training. You can download and print your certificate once you have completed the module.
