Online Radicalisation – Key Signs

This 1.30-hour webinar is for WSCC staff and partner agencies and explores some of the key impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak on online radicalisation during lockdown and going forward.

The webinar will support you to explore some of the key online message’s that extremist groups use to radicalise vulnerable individuals. You will identify some of the preferred platforms used by extremist groups and the coded language that can signify engagement with concerning ideologies.

Important Information
This online webinar will be hosted on Microsoft Teams. To be able to take part in this session you must have the following equipment:
  • Access to a computer or tablet.
  • Access to the Internet.
  • A web camera. (Mobile phones are not suitable due to the small screen.)
  • You must also have previously attended a Prevent course and have a basic understanding of the Prevent Agenda.
  • The aim of this webinar is to support you to raise your understanding of how increased online activity, due to factors like COVID-19, can bring risks of online radicalisation.

    The webinar will help you explore some key groups and individuals and enable you to identify how they use the online space to influence and recruit. The webinar will provide up-to-date information on the fringe online platforms used to promote extremist views and some of the key signs to look out for.
    If you apply what you have learnt on this workshop you will be able to:

  • Identify some key groups and individuals that promote an extremist ideology.
  • Explore coded language and symbols often associated with extremist narratives.
  • Recognise some of the key push-and-pull factors exploited by online radicalisers.

  • Before attending this webinar you must have attended a Prevent course and have a basic understanding of the Prevent agenda.
