Modern Slavery Basic Awareness Webinar

This 1 hour 30 minute webinar is for West Sussex County Council and local authority staff and partner agencies working in the Private, Voluntary and Independent Sector.

It seeks to support you in gaining an awareness of the basic information about Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking, what it is, how to recognise it and what to do about it.

Modern Slavery is a complex crime and public organisations have a duty to notify and include due diligence activities in their operations regarding Modern Slavery and Potential Victims of Trafficking.

This webinar will focus on all aspects of Modern Slavery, particularly the measures that should be taken in order to identify and safeguard potential victims including the National Referral Mechanism process and referrals to Adult and Child Safeguarding.

The webinar will be presented on Skype (audio) using a specially prepared PowerPoint presentation, interspersed with Question and Answer sessions.

To be able to participate in this webinar you must have the following:
  • Access to a computer,
  • Access to the Internet,
  • A web camera with microphone.

  • The webinar will be accompanied by a detailed workbook (also in PowerPoint format), which will be emailed to you before the session, and which you can use for preliminary reading and as a memo for links to extra resources and information.
    The aim of this webinar is to support you in gaining a basic knowledge of what Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking is and how to recognise and report it.
    If you apply what you have learnt in this webinar you will be able to;

  • Define what Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking is.
  • Recognise the context of Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking in relation to culture, society and the law.
  • Identify the underlying causes of Modern Slavery.
  • Identify some of the different types of Modern Slavery and their identifying features.
  • Recognise when Modern Slavery is occurring.
  • Know what to do if you suspect that Modern Slavery is taking place, including referrals to the National Referral Mechanism (NRM).
  • Before attending the webinar you must read through the Workbook that will be emailed out to you before the session.
    The workbook has been created in PowerPoint format, designed to be read as a slide show. It provides some useful information in readiness for discussions during the webinar and also acts as a memo for further reference, including useful links and resources.
