Safer Recruitment Webinar


This Safer Recruitment webinar, delivered over two half days, is for managers in Early Help or Children's Social and Residential Care who are responsible for recruiting staff who work with children and young people, or who are involved in providing services for them.

It seeks to assist you in raising your awareness and improving your practice throughout the interview and recruitment selection process of new staff in order that you maximise the opportunity for hiring suitable candidates within the wider context of safeguarding.

During the course delegates will complete a multiple choice assessment to gain their certification.

Please note delegates need to book onto and attend both half days to complete the course and assessment.

The event is an interactive Skype session. When you book on to this event, you will be sent; a confirmation email from and an Outlook calendar appointment for an interactive online workshop.

The aim of this course is to assist you in improving your awareness of the following topics;

  • Prevalence of abuse and profile of abusers
  • How abusers operate within organisations
  • Features of a safer recruitment process
  • Planning a safer recruitment process
  • Making the right decisions: interview and selection
  • Setting acceptable standards of behaviour
  • Maintaining an on-going culture of vigilance.
  • If you apply what you have learnt on this course you will be able to;

  • Identify the key features of staff recruitment that deter or prevent the appointment of unsuitable people.
  • Consider policies and practice that minimise opportunities for abuse or ensure its prompt reporting.
  • Help participants to review WSCC policies and practice in recruitment with a view to creating a safer culture.
  • Attendance on the half day Recruitment and Interview Training is a mandatory requirement before booking onto this event.
