Medication Administration - Competency Assessors Workshop

This interactive one day workshop is for you, if you have the responsibility for assessing the competency of staff who administer medication to our customers.

See the NICE Guidance 2014 that states: ‘Care home providers should ensure that all care home staff have an annual review of their knowledge, skills and competencies relating to managing and administering medicines.’ This guidance applies to all care homes and day centres in Adult and Children’s services.

It will provide you with the skills and knowledge required, to enable you to carry out the observations, questioning and giving feedback to those having a competency check.
Please note: It would be advisable for all delegates to have updated their own Medication Administration training within the last 2 years.
The aim of this workshop is to enable you to gain the skills and knowledge required to support you in assessing the competence of staff when administering medication.
If you apply what you have learnt on this workshop you will be able to:

  • State the specific learning and development that care staff require, relating to the different levels of help that can be provided with medication
  • Demonstrate skills to safely administer various forms of medication to include, oral medication and eye drops
  • Explain what is involved in assessing competency
  • Explain how to give effective and constructive feedback
  • State the importance of having a documented record of staff training and competency checks
  • You must have completed training within the past year that enables you to administer medication at level 2, for example, Administering Medication: Level 2 Training provided by WSCC.
