Medication - Administration - Level 2 (Residential, Day Centres and Customers own homes)

Webinar
N.B YOU MUST COMPLETE THE E-LEARNING MODULE AND A WORKBOOK WITH ACTIVITIES BEFORE ATTENDING THIS WEBINAR. The pre-work will take approximately 5 hours to complete.

This blended learning is for staff who are responsible for Administering Medication to people living in their own homes, Residential homes and Day centres.

The training is in 3 parts:

Pre-session work:

  • E-learning module
  • Workbook with activities to be completed. (The Workbook can be found attached to the e-learning module.)

  • This Three-Hour online webinar over Skype.

The training follows the West Sussex County Council Medication Policy.

This is a new form of training: An interactive Skype session, supported by individual work before the session. You will need access to a laptop or Electronic Notebook to attend the webinar. The webinar session will go through the answers to the workbook and give you an opportunity to ask any questions and consolidate your understanding.

When you book on to this event, you will be sent:
  • A confirmation email from learninganddevelopment@westsussex.gov.uk
  • An Outlook calendar appointment for the interactive webinar.

  • Please open the Outlook calendar appointment called ‘Join Skype Meeting’ which contains the link to the Skype session. Click “Save and close” to add the session to your calendar.
Together, the pre-session work and webinar will provide you with the theory/refresher you need to understand how to administer medication safely. You will need to undertake practical training in your workplace in order to become competent to administer medication without supervision.
If participants apply what they have learned through this blended learning approach, they will be able to:

  • Identify current legislation, guidelines policies and protocols relevant to the administration of medication.
  • Know about common types of medicines and their use.
  • Describe roles and responsibilities in the use of medicines in social care settings.
  • Explain how to receive supplies of medicines in line with agreed ways of working.
  • Describe how to store medicines safely.
  • Describe how to dispose of unused or unwanted medicines safely.
  • Explain the techniques for the safe administration of medicines.
  • To attend the online webinar, you must complete the pre-session work. This will take approximately 5 hours to complete. It is recommended you do this in manageable chunks over 1 week.
