Supporting Positive Behaviour in People with Learning Disabilities

Course
This one day workshop is aimed at those who are supporting people with Learning Disabilities who may behave in ways that could be perceived as challenging.
The aim of this workshop is to enable you to reflect on reasons why people behave in ways that could be perceived as challenging. The workshop will also enable you to consider approaches that support individuals to communicate positively.
If you apply what you have learnt on this workshop you will be able to:

  • Explore how individuals might use behaviours to communicate their needs and emotions
  • Define how our values, beliefs and attitudes can reflect the support we provide
  • Describe how internal and external antecedents may interact to affect behaviour and identify possible triggers
  • Identify strategies for supporting positive behaviour
  • Demonstrate techniques that can be used to keep safe when managing challenging situations
