Children and Young People’s Growth and Development (Conception to 25yrs)

This one day course is for staff working within Children's Services.

It seeks to provide you with a broad overview of the key milestones for children and young people, as measured through social, emotional, intellectual, physical and linguistic development.
The aim of this course is for you to improve your awareness when working across age ranges and to provide you with the resources for signposting to local services if areas of concern are identified.

Key themes that you will encounter in this course include attachment, resilience and brain development.
If you apply what you have learnt on this course you will be able to;

  • Describe the range of expected achievements and behavioural and developmental milestones for children and young people.
  • Describe key child development theories, including attachment, cognitive development and resilience.
  • Explain how the brain develops at different ages and factors that impact on this.
  • Identify behaviours that may trigger a cause for concern at different age/stage and wider factors that may impact on this.
  • Identify when appropriate referrals need to be made.
  • Analyse information observed in practice to develop clear desired outcomes.
