Neglect

Course
This whole day course is for professionals from all agencies who work with children, young people, their parents and carers.

It focusses on Child Neglect and how the multi-agency network should respond to it
The aim of this course is to provide you with the opportunity to discuss and consider the key factors involved when identifying and assessing families where children may be suffering from Neglect.
If you apply what you have learnt on this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify personal attitudes and practice in relation to neglect
  • Describe the theories and tools used to assess the level and impact of neglect
  • Use chronologies outlining their importance in analysis and decision making
  • Identify vulnerability, resilience and parental motivation to change
  • Recognise the importance of seeking the child's views, wishes and feelings
  • List the thresholds for neglect
  • Relate the approaches needed to work with neglect across cultures
  • In order to attend this course it is a pre-requisite that you have already completed the on-line course 'Safeguarding Children' which is available through the WSSCB website and the Learning and Development Gateway. You should also have attended the 'Working Together to Safeguard Children' course.

    Charges may apply. Please consult the WSSCB Charging and Cancellation Policy before applying.

    Fees are £120.00 per person for full-day courses and £60.00 per half day course. If you are a small not for profit organisation, based solely in West Sussex, you may be eligible for a discretionary reduction of 50%.
