Medication Awareness for Shared Lives Carers

This interactive short course is for all people supporting individuals under the West Sussex Shared Lives Scheme.

It does not matter if do not administer medication to the people you support.

It is an important place to update yourself on the current West Sussex Adults’ Services Medication Policy.

Attendance will help to make sure that should someone you support need medication (prescribed or over the counter), you know what to do.

This course is Mandatory and must be updated every 3 years. Failure to update this may lead to a return to Panel for non-compliance with the Training Agreement (which forms part of your contract with WSCC).
Attendance will help you to gain/refresh your understanding of the safe handling, storage, recording and administration of medicines and your responsibilities as a Shared Lives Carer.
If you apply what you have learnt on this workshop you will be able to:

  • Update your knowledge on the safe storage and administration of medication.
  • Promote people’s independence with managing their medication.
  • Under assessment or already approved as a Shared Lives Carer or Support Carer. It is beneficial to already be supporting people under the Shared Lives Scheme, although not essential.
