Makaton Foundation (Level 1 and 2)

Course
This two day course is for practitioners who need to use Makaton at work.

To attend this course you must have an understanding of early communication skills.

The costs include four workshop manuals and a certificate of attendance.
The aim of this course is to provide you with a detailed introduction to Makaton and combines a practical approach with theory and technical information, as well as an experiential introduction to communication disability.
If you apply what you have learnt in this course you will be able to;

  • Describe the use and purpose of Makaton.
  • Describe emotional and psychological effects associated with severe communication difficulties.
  • Use multi forms of communication including signs, symbols, speech and body language to convey information.
  • Organise information in order to convey it to others and extend interactions.
  • Use direction, placement and movement during non-verbal communication.
  • Recognise, draw and demonstrate the signs and symbols for Stages 1-4 and additional Core Vocabulary.
  • This course has been arranged for Early Years settings. Other groups are welcome to attend, but please read the course costs below before booking.

    Course Costs
    Training Subscription members can book onto this course at no additional cost as you have already paid into our training subscription scheme and you will use tokens for payment for this course. The number of tokens each course requires can be found in the Course Brochure. We will take the tokens used off your total and send you a monthly report so you know how many you have used.

    Please check that you have enough tokens to purchase this course before you book. If not, you have the option to purchase additional tokens at any time, please email ipeh.practice.improvement@westsussex.gov.uk for details. Alternatively, you can book using the ‘pay-as-you-go’ rate.

    Pay-as-you-go
    Schools who are not part of the Early Years Training Subscription, PVI Care Providers, members of the public and West Sussex County Council staff are required to pay the pay-as-you-go rate. Schools may join the Early Years Training Subscription scheme. Details are available on the West Sussex County Council Website.
