Autism Awareness in Early Years

This is a one day course for all Early Years practitioners and seeks to increase your awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorders in Children.
The aim of this course is to increase your awareness of the Autism spectrum and enable you to develop strategies to support young children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders.
If you apply what you have learnt in this workshop you will be able to;

  • Understand what Autism is and why it’s a spectrum condition.
  • Explore the main difficulties associated with the “Triad of Impairment” and how these may manifest in the behaviour young children.
  • Understand the process of sensory integration including the difference between hyper and hypo sensitivity.
  • Understand strategies to help minimise anxiety for autistic children including the use of visual cues and timetables.
  • This course has been arranged for Early Years settings. Other groups are welcome to attend, but please read the course costs below before booking.

    Course Costs
    Training Subscription members can book onto this course at no additional cost as you have already paid into our training subscription scheme and you will use tokens for payment for this course. The number of tokens each course requires can be found in the Course Brochure. We will take the tokens used off your total and send you a monthly report so you know how many you have used.

    Please check that you have enough tokens to purchase this course before you book. If not, you have the option to purchase additional tokens at any time, please email for details. Alternatively, you can book using the ‘pay-as-you-go’ rate.

    IPEH staff should contact the Practice Improvement team if they wish to attend.

    Schools who are not part of the Early Years Training Subscription, PVI Care Providers, members of the public and West Sussex County Council staff are required to pay the pay-as-you-go rate. Schools may join the Early Years Training Subscription scheme. Details are available on the West Sussex County Council Website.
