Fire Marshall

This half day course is for designated Fire Marshals in West Sussex County Council care establishments only.

It will provide you with an understanding and the essential information on how to promote fire safety in the workplace. It will also include how to manage a fire evacuation in an emergency.

Please Note: You should be a designated member of staff in your workplace who has, or will have, the Fire Marshal responsibility in your role.
The aim of this course is to present an insight into fire regulations and general fire precautions. It aims to provide you with the knowledge to become a fire marshal and follow the policy and procedures
If you apply what you have learnt on this course you will be able to:

  • Explain fire safety legislation within the role of a Fire Marshall
  • Identify the causes of fire and the measures required to prevent fires from spreading
  • Identify the need to carry out and implement a risk assessment for fire safety
  • Recognise the emergency procedures to be followed in the event of a fire
  • Recognise the importance of keeping evacuation routes clear at all times
  • Demonstrate how to use fire extinguishers
  • Explain the responsibilities of the fire service and how to liaise with them
  • Apply learning to manage fire drills and evacuation
  • Apply learning to review fire drills and evacuation
  • You should have attended Fire Safety training prior to attending this course, either online or within a venue
