This full day course is for foster carers and provides the knowledge and skills required to perform First Aid. There is a combination of theory and practical exercises that will enable you to treat children and young people who have suffered accidents and received injuries as a result.

This event is strictly for pre-booked, confirmed delegates only. You will not be permitted to attend if you do not have a confirmed booking.
The aim of this one day course is for you to feel confident in dealing with accidents and injuries acquired by children and young people.
If you apply what you have learnt on this course you will be able to:

  • Identify and apply first aid techniques to children and young people who you are caring for should it be required
  • Demonstrate with confidence the ability to deal with the following situations:
  • allergic reaction
  • asthma
  • bleeding
  • bone, muscle and joint injuries
  • burns
  • choking of all ages
  • communication and care
  • head injury
  • poisoning
  • primary survey
  • resuscitation all ages
  • role of the first aider
  • unconscious casualty and childhood conditions
  • Important note:
There is a level of physical ability required to complete this course successfully. In order to carry out the practical elements you will need to be able to work on the floor at various times throughout the course, including placing a casualty in the Recovery Position, various First Aid scenarios and simulated CPR on a manikin - which must be demonstrated on the floor.

Please consider carefully whether you are able to undertake these activities before applying.
If you are unable to do so, please contact Learning and Development for further advice before booking a place on this course: learninganddevelopment@westsussex.gov.uk

You will be asked on the day of the course to read and sign a Medical Declaration to confirm you know of no condition that would affect your ability to take part in the course.

This event is strictly for pre-booked, confirmed delegates only. You will not be permitted to attend if you do not have a confirmed booking.

As you will be working on the floor, it is recommended that you wear casual clothing.
