Care and Legal Aspects for Children in Care

This one day course is for staff in residential establishments.

It explores the requirement for consistent care for young people in residential establishments, including support with behaviour issues.

It will enable you to explore your own attitudes and appreciate your role in encouraging young people to achieve their potential.
The aim of this course is to identify the historical perspective of children in care, the legislation, policy and guidance for looked after children and examine attitudes and values.
If you apply what you have learnt on this course you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the legal framework, regulations and guidance for the care of looked after children and young people and for managing their behaviour
  • Explore your own attitudes and values regarding the management of children's behaviour and how these relate to the legal framework
  • Explain the importance of advocacy and representation for children and young people who are in the care of the local authority
