Child Protection Awareness

Course
This full day course is designed for all staff who have infrequent or irregular contact with children, young people, parents or carers who may become aware of possible child abuse or neglect.

This is an introductory course to children's safeguarding, to enable staff to be more alert to children's safety and welfare and know how to act on any concerns. This is not a refresher course for staff who have already completed safeguarding training.

It will look at current definitions of child abuse and neglect and consider signs and indicators of abuse and neglect. It will outline the current legal and policy context and explain the procedures concerning what to do if you have concerns about a child.
The aim of this course is to provide you with the skills and knowledge required to recognise signs and indicators of abuse and neglect and what your responsibilities are.
If you apply what you have learnt on this course, you will be able to:

  • List the main categories of abuse and neglect
  • Describe the main signs and indicators of abuse and neglect
  • Recognise their role as a worker in relation to safeguarding children
  • Recognise the legislative and policy context within which they work
