First Aid at Work

Course
This three day certificated course is for nominated workplace first aiders in all Adult Care Provider Services and West Sussex County Council employees in either Adult or Children services who work with adults. It does not cover child or paediatric first aid.

The course comprehensively covers the practical skills needed by first aiders in the work place where they are the nominated first aider and a higher level of first aid training is required.
The aim of this course is to provide you with the knowledge and practical skills required to meet first aid requirements in the workplace in line with Health and Safety (First Aid) legislation.
If you apply what you have learnt on this course you will be able to:

  • Identify the role of the first aider in the workplace
  • Perform resuscitation incorporating the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Carry out first aid care of the casualty and summon help as required
  • Demonstrate with confidence the ability to deal with the following situations:
  • allergic reaction
  • asthma
  • bleeding
  • burns and scalds
  • choking
  • eye injuries
  • fainting
  • fractures
  • heart attacks
  • low blood sugar
  • managing an emergency
  • poisoning
  • seizures
  • severe allergic reaction
  • shock
  • sprains
  • strains and fractures
  • treatment of an unconscious casualty
  • Important note:
    You must bring Photo I.D. for the trainer to check; e.g. Passport / Driving Licence / Work I.D. Card.

    If you do not provide Photo I.D. you will not be permitted to attend this event.

    There is a level of physical ability required to complete this course successfully. In order to carry out the practical elements you will need to be able to work on the floor at various times throughout the course, including placing a casualty in the Recovery Position, various First Aid scenarios and simulated CPR on a manikin - which must be demonstrated on the floor.

    This event is strictly for pre-booked, confirmed delegates only. You will not be permitted to attend if you do not have a confirmed booking.

    You will be asked on the day of the course to read and sign a Medical Declaration to confirm you know of no condition that would affect your ability to take part in the course.

    You must read the Qualsafe Awards Training Commitment document (attached) before participating in this event.

    As you will be working on the floor, it is recommended that you wear casual clothing.
