Safeguarding Children with Disabilities

This full day course is for practitioners who work with children, some of whom may have a disability. Children with Disabilities are under represented in safeguarding work and this course will seek to help you understand what is needed when working with this group.
The aim of this course is to raise your awareness and skills in working with children with disabilities.
If you apply what you have learnt on this briefing, you will be able to:

  • Identify the factors that make children with disabilities more vulnerable to harm and their safeguarding needs
  • Recognise the attitudes and assumptions that can exist in relation to children with disabilities, abuse and neglect
  • Identify safe practice in the provision of intimate care
  • Explain the multi-agency roles in safeguarding children with disabilities
  • Acquire practice skills in communicating with children with disabilities when investigating abuse or neglect
