Rapid Response: Responding to an Unexpected Child Death (Cancelled)

This one day course is for frontline staff and practitioners in Health, Police, Social Care and the Coroner's Office who will be involved in the Rapid Response process for unexpected child deaths.

It will outline the rapid reponse process that takes place following an unexpected childhood death.
The aim of this course is to provide you with the basic skills needed to carry out an inter-agency investigation into an unexpected childhood death in accordance with the Chapter 5 guidance in Working Together to Safeguard Children 2013.
If you apply what you have learnt on this course you will be able to:

  • Describe in detail the different components of the rapid response to an unexpected childhood death
  • Identify roles and responsibilities of all professionals involved in the process
  • Collect and share relevant information for the investigation through taking a thorough history, review of background information from your own agencies, and evaluation of the scene and circumstances of a child's death
  • Explain to families the purpose and process of the rapid response, including what will happen to their child
  • Collate and evaluate information from the investigation in light of knowledge of nature and causes of unexpected death
  • Recognise and respond appropriately where there are suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of a child
  • To attend this course you must be a member of frontline staff or a practitioner who would be involved in the rapid response process for unexpected child deaths.

    Cancellation Charges

    These Charges will apply after a place has been confirmed, if less than 10 working days notice of cancellation are given prior to the course date. The Charge will be £60 per full day course and £30 per half day course. Please note these charges apply to all agencies and organisations, including those who contribute to the LSCB. If a substitute is found to attend the course in the place of the person cancelling, no charge will be made. Exemptions to this charge are at the discretion of the LSCB Training Manager

    Non-Attendance On the Day

    All agencies, including all those who contribute to the LSCB budget will be charged £60 per full day course and £30 per half day course for non-attendance on the day where there has been no attempt to notify Learning and Development, or reason given. Exemptions to this charge at the discretion of the LSCB Training Manager. Please note Line Managers will be notified of non-attendance.
